What is Your All Time Favorite Fish Catch

I know it may be difficult for some to remember the time they caught that trophy fish, or the time they caught all those fish in one particular place, but I have a feeling that most you guys know that TIME. When it comes to fishing I seldom ever forget the trips or the fish that really stood out in my mind. I can still remember the trip at daylight some 25 years ago with my brother and landed not one but two largemouth on buzzbaits that morning. I have both mounted and both were between 7 and 8 lbs. I can also remember the largest crappie I ever landed in Mississippi a couple of years ago, which was 14" long, really don't know the weight. The bluegills are too many to remember, but the 14 through 16 oz. really stand out in my mind. Most all of the big gills were landed using the fly rod. With all that said----My most memorable trip or fish had to be the 3 1/2 lb. spot I caught last October using the fly rod with a big popper. I hope someday I can best that record. I am curious to know what's the time or fish that you will never forget.

  1. I recall an epic evening last summer.

Epic in the numbers of fish caught - I don't remember the total # I caught, but I do remember when releasing a fish, I tossd the hook out & with rod still tucked under my arm, I caught a 20". One of those days/evenings when everything goes right.

  2. I was playing a smallie, he ran into a very swift current and took off behind me. The thing was, a fallen tree was there and I tried to hard to fight him and the current. I got him up on the other side of the tree. BEAUTIFUL and large.

I reached down to take hold of him, he shook and fell into the river.

  4. I must admit I am not that precise. My goal is to land a trout the size you caught. I know you will never forget the brown even if you land one larger. Thanks for sharing

I hate to see them if I have to lose them, you probably feel the same way. I had rather guess the size so I can say it was smaller, that way it doesn't hurt my ego as bad. Thanks for the comment

Consider yourself fortunate, because not many of us have those kinds of trips. Thanks for the comment

  7. Oh, I was just having fun with ya, I don't normally remember that kind of stuff...but, that trip was special...my first fishing trip with Rebecca of OBN. I wrote a post about it a month or so ago...it will be hard to top! I really like your blog by the way...I need to do more lake fishing this summer.

As long as you remember the trip, that is all that matters. As for lake fishing I go two to three times a week, and 90% is fly fishing. I use to tournament bass fish some years ago. After my daughter married a guy from Tennessee I have done very little bass fishing with the casting reels, now it is with the fly rod. I had fly fish all my adult life but never really got back into it until my son-in-law carried me on my first trout fishing trip in the northern part of Tennessee, after that I was hooked for life. You might say it is my passion now. Try some Boogle Poppers on your local lakes around this summer, they are some of the best poppers I have ever used. The link is

  9. About 8 years ago I went wadefishing a salwater bay in Corpus with my cousin. We started just before dawn fishing with large topwaters. On my first cast in the dark, I picked up a nice 22" speckled trout. We spent maybe seven hours in the water and waded two miles into the bay. It was a blast as the bay was full of redfish that would explode on the top waters blowing straight up into the air! Half the time we hooked up. Watching the swell behind the lure as we walked the dog was thrilling, too! I had many trips with better catches but that was one of the most memorable.

I know what you are talking about, there is nothing like seeing that fish explode on that lure, especially at daylight. The fly is about as explosive, got to love it. Thanks for the comment
