Avoiding the Crowd

I wanted to take a break from my bluegill fishing from last week so I worked in a quick outing on the Sipsey. A good number of fishermen were on the water, which made me think that access 7 would be less crowded. This was the week before Labor Day Weekend, on a Friday and not a good time to fish the Sipsey. I knew they were going to stock the place on the following Thursday right before the holiday weekend. So I was going to try to beat the crowd. Most all fisherman know when they stock this place.
Just above access 7 close to the dam, there is one guy out of camera range, close to where they release the trout. I was surprised to find no one near the steps at 7.
One to hand right after I got in place. All the trout that are stocked in the Sipsey are extremely healthy.
Keep an eye on the indicator--after filming and landing this trout I got my trout fix for the morning. I enjoyed the fight as much as this trout did!!

  1. It would seem to me that the closer to the dam, the better. We have the Mokelumne which is quite similar to the Sipsey. I've fished up and down that "creek" and never got a take until I fished right below the dam. Yuki and I both scored 18 inchers that day.

  2. That's keeping ahead of the crowd & out of its way, Bill, while having some good times on the water. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Bill it looks like you have that nymphing down pat.
I like you video, you feature the natural sounds instead of loud background music.

The dam area which is close to access 7 is only fished 3 to 4 days after the trout are released. Thanks for the comment

I'm getting used to crowds on the Sipsey this year, mainly because people are looking for outdoor space to escape the virus. Hopefully next year the crowds will thin out. You can only get so many fly fishermen along a 3/4 mile stretch of wadable water. Thanks for the comment

I agree I don't care for the music background on outdoor videos; enjoying the sounds of nature makes an outdoor video much more realistic. If I want to listen to music I will play some songs on my MP3 stick in my truck. Thanks for the comment

The sound is an integral part of the footage when filming outdoor videos. The trout and the birds in the background performed well for the camera that morning! We are extremely lucky to have a place like the Sipsey to fish for trout in Alabama. I live 20 minutes from the Sipsey. Thanks for the comment
