Buying American Made Products--Are You In???

My last post dealt with purchasing some bargain fishing equipment. What I neglected to tell you guys that I was actually looking for Made in America fishing products. I knew I was going to follow up with this post. I did find some catfish bait made in the United States, but the other items were made you guessed it in China. One item was made in Japan. That post got me to thinking about the newscast the ABC Nightly News has been broadcasting for the past couple of months. They have been doing news segments on how one can help create jobs in this country by simply buying American Made Goods. An example of one of their segments recently was to spend 64.00 of your Christmas dollars on American Made products. That 64.00 would produce as many as 200,000 jobs in this country: just think about that. If the general population in this county would spend that amount for Christmas what an impact it could have for the unemployed. After watching the segments I find myself now being more conscious of things my wife and I buy. I am now actually checking to see where the items are made. Of course, a large majority is still made aboard, which in reality is just one of the problems that have caused the deficient problem we are facing now. ---not to mention the gridlock in congress---I checked my fishing tackle recently and found that I have only one fishing rod made in the US which was a crappie pole made in West Point Mississippi. All the rest was made in China. ABC News has been asking the question to the viewing audience are they in when it comes to buying American Made Products; well I am in. My question to all my fishing buddies out there is are you in?  I hope you guys will buy an American made product next time you are at your local outlet store. Who knows some of you might even do a post concerning the product you purchase. BUY AMERICA MADE PRODUCTS!!!

  1. Bill, you might find better deals but is it really worth it. Personally I try to go out of my way to get that Made in America tag.
I think we all as Americans and I mean all from the blue collar workers to the stuffy white shirt workers need to realize that we are not the nation we used to be and these other countries see this and take advantage of that fact.

Buy American and sleep better at night.

  2. Buying American Made products is really hard to do now days. The price differences are usually huge. It's really hard to just find things made in the US. Especially fishing stuff. Most flies are made in Thailand or Sri Lanka. Tools are made in China and Korea. A lot of rods are made there as well. If we aren't careful we'll be getting are rivers stocked with trout bred in China.

  3. Proud to say all my fly rods and reels are made in the USA. I own all Scott Fly Rods and Nautilus Reels. I own quite a few, so I helped keep at least a few people employed.

An example of what you are talking about is the tools, none to speak of in the US--I try to make up for the loss their by buying something else even if it is only one item, an example was a tool belt I bought the other day for 10.00, true it was about a buck more than the China made but it was worth the buy. Thanks for the comment

  11. Hi, Bill. Really meaningful post here with a very good point! As you know, my fishing is done with spinning gear and lures. I have made a sincere effort to look at spinners, as an example, made in the USA! Fish Creek Spinners and Wyld Edge Spinners are made here and both are very effective spinners.

Glad you ask about flies, because I forgot to mention in the post, that Flydeals Half Buck Flyshop out of North Carolina use locals to tie their own flies. I have order many times from this company because they are USA made. They also have the best price on the net at .50 a pop for flies. The quality is great. Thanks for the comment.

The new casts on ABC really got my attention. Sure I was aware that most all the products we purchase in this country is made abroad, but the newscast drove that home. I always try to buy local, even if it is a little more in price. Thanks for the comment
