Rare Saturday Morning Fishing on The Sipsey

Guys I've been trying to fish the Sipsey for weeks. Well, this morning I made a rare visit on a Saturday. I didn't get lonesome I had plenty of company. I was fishing my 10 ft. 3 wt. this morning tight-lining in places where others were not fishing. Anytime one can land a few trout on a beautiful morning without rain, tornados, and cold fronts is always a plus.!!

If you haven't given the 10 ft. 3 wt a try it is worth a look. This stocker trout was quite a workout for the 10 ft. Netting the trout takes some adjustment when dealing with an extra foot in length.
You all know how proud Cathey and I are of our grandchildren, well we feel like our oldest one Bryson is growing up too fast. He will graduate from the elementary school next week. Just seems like yesterday we were rocking him to sleep when he was a baby----makes us wonder sometimes how times zooms by!
I can't mention Bryson without mentioning Cash our youngest grandson. He is the number one player on his tag football team. He has a lot of speed for 6 years old. Laylyn, Pops hasn't forgotten you I will feature some of your tennis skills soon.
Another rainbow landed today fishing deep in unknown waters on the Sipsey. Look for the 10 wt. to make an appearance on Smith Lake soon fighting some of those bull bluegills. This trout was a hoot to land on the 3 wt.
I'm a big fan of wild fern in wetlands and shaded wooded areas. To duplicate the sound of a small stream with wild fern around it like Alan's fishes I decided I would created a little wetland near our front door. Alan, I can't fish this place but it reminds me of all those small streams all you guys have the pleasure to fish .  Tightlines!!

  1. I like your water feature with ferns, Bill. The sound of trickling water is so enchanting. I have thought many, many times about how to incorporate trout in a garden water feature system, but I've settled on winning the lottery and buying an estate with its own trout stream :-)

  2. Hi Bill. Enjoy your grandkids while you can. Pretty soon they won't have time for you like mine don't. Katherine made a quilt for Mavis (Great-Granddaughter) and it was ready for pickup last Fall. Least they could do is come over and pick it up. Still here and the Grandkids only live an hour or so away. A couple nice Bow's.

  3. Good to see that the river gave you a pleasurable work-out with the 3-weight, Bill. And when the grands grow so quickly, every "graduation" is a cause to celebrate!

  4. Wow Bill those rainbows are in great shape. That second one is almost perfect. Maybe it's a holdover from previous stockings.
    Nice fern garden.

The private trout steam would be the ultimate, not only for the catch and release but the sound of the stream itself. thanks for the comment

One of the guys I fish with told me the same thing concerning Grandchildren not having much to do with Grandparent when they grow up----I hope that is not the case with our three. Thanks for the comment

I didn't mention the type of tight line fishing I was doing in the post, which was the Euro Nymphing technique. I watched a lot of videos all winter relating to that style of fishing and Saturday was my first outing Euro Nymphing. I learned a lot on the trip and came away convinced that it is a great technique to use on pressure water. Thanks for the comment

I was able to land four and yes the second trout was the best of the four. All the trout were taken tight-lining which was something I've wanted to try for some time on the Sipsey. Thanks for the comment

Agree the longer fly rods are perfect for tight line, euro, and high sticking. I will be doing more posts concerning the technique. Thanks for the comment
