When one makes a trip like I just made and only lands a few fish in a number of days it makes you wonder why wasn’t the fish biting? Well there are lots of factors that can affect the fish bite, and usually it is not the lure alone. Wind out of the east, high barometer, lake falling, approaching cold front, and cold water temps and last most all the fish were under lily pads located all around the lake and covering the back area. So when some of you guys are out on the water and not landing any fish, you might want to consider some of the factors mentioned above before blaming it all on yourself.
, crappie fishing with my brother. The fishing was tough to say the least. We fished for two days using the Spider method, and were able to land only five crappie. For those of you who not familiar with Spider Fishing check out the link for a trip I did with my brother back in the summer. Mississippi
Who blames themselves when the reek of skunk fills the air? I've often wondered how you cope with a large school of hungry crappies when you've got 30 rods out.ReplyDelete
The pads were holding large numbers of fish and we couldn't get to them, top it all off with the factors mentioned in the post made matters worse. thanks for the commnet
the bad days are the ones that really make the good days good. cherish the bad.ReplyDelete
Great advice. I always make sure to check the good ole barometer before I head out. Nothing worse than when the pressure isn't cooperating. I guess it just makes it more challenging:) Glad to hear you were out on the water and enjoying the day. Damn the wind!! Tight Lines.ReplyDelete
At least you knew where the fish WERE. :)ReplyDelete
Toss a microjig under an indicator with your fly rod around those lily pads. Crappies can't resist a small easy meal.
Easy for me to say, right?
If it was always easy, we wouldn't appreciate those GOOD days as much.
I agree, that is what fishing so interesting, if everyday was good it might get boring----do I really believe that???
I will take the wind over a bad barometer anyday, those two days were really bad. thanks for the comment
Next time I am down there I will give that a try. We were going to try it with the long crappie pole but just spent too much time Spider Fishing. Thanks for the comment
I don't do a good enough job taking weather and other factors into consideration when going out to fish...I do however have really low expectations, I think that helps as well :-)ReplyDelete
We all take the factors in weather for granted. I am one who needs as well to pay closer attention to weather conditions. Sometimes when you have only those times to be on the water, you have to go with what is given as far as weather is concerned. This crappie trip was to go with what was given. thanks for the comment
