Sorry, I've been out of the loop of blogging for a while, mainly due to the weather, cold temps, rain, and water temps. I've made a few fishing trips, mainly for the outdoor experience, to the Sipsey Tailrace and Walker County Lake, with limited success. In other words, I'm glad I was using my 2 and 3 wt. Fly rod becasue the bend in the rod produced by a couple of small bluegill and one 5" rainbow was a hoot.
As most of you know, I am into watching fly fishing videos. When one thinks they know everything about fly fishing, someone proves you wrong. This individual is one of the numerous fly fishermen I follow on Utube. He recently filmed a video titled What is Fly Fishing, I thought why would I want to watch this video but once I started watching it I realized he shared some interesting points about this great sport. Hi Bill, I've seen a few of Simon's videos, too, as well as others. Even though we've had a crazy mild winter (so far). lakes and rivers are still frozen and between watching fishing videos and tying flies I'm getting eager for open water. Another sign of Spring is receiving photos of flies my friends are sending. You're lucky to get out fishing, here up north we're still waiting!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your first trip. Thursday will be my first trip to Smith Lake this year. The air temperature will be 78 degrees, and the water temperature will be 58 to 60. Water temps are too cold for top action, but a streamer pattern should attract a take. I have a feeling your smallmouth fishing is a way off. Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteI have been out of the loop of blogging too. =( Maybe I will get a post up later tonight. I finally got out to the river... It's been awhile! I need to tie up a few more flies. One worked out rather well! Those tying videos are so helpful.

ReplyDeleteMy two big regrets about fly fishing are not learning to tie my flies and not starting to fly fish years ago. My Dad taught me and my brothers how to fly fish years ago, but over time, I went back to the traditional spin and baitcasting reels.
I decided to try it again after I retired 17 years ago. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself.
I hope it warms some out of your way soon, and you can try out some of the new patterns you've tied up. Thanks for the comment
