Viewing the Mico Nymphing Technique--Interesting!!

I have to admit trout fishing or any kind of fishing is put on the back burner during this time of year for me. The tailrace will be up and going again sometimes this month. There will be 3000 rainbows released right below the dam in the coming weeks. These trout will be coming from Missouri and will be larger than the 9-10" trout we get from Tennessee. I hope to be on the water as soon as the trout get accumulated to the surroundings. In the meantime I fill the days going to the gym, removing tons of leaves in the yard, visiting our children and grandchildren and watching lots of fly fishing videos clip on YouTude. While scanning the tube yesterday I came across this neat little piece of footage I thought was really interesting. It is called “Micro Nymphing” the guy gives an excellent presentation on this nymphing  technique. I learn something every time I watch one of these clips; I hope you learn something as well.

I like this concept of mixing micro with standard size flies. This technique is a perfect example of that. Thanks for sharing

  3. Micro nymphing makes more sense to me every day. This video is excellent. Unfortunately, the need to go small gets more difficult with each passing day for us "older" folks. Thanks Bill this was interesting.

I have to admit I don't use enough small flies such as size 28, and even smaller. I do know when the trout have lock jaw smaller will get you better results. Thanks for the comment

  7. I'm surprised he didn't spook the trout with the way he was mending. That water didn't look that broken and his mends were pretty exaggerated. A lot of the streams I fish you would spook every fish in the area if you mended like that.

I think this was an area or stream that was not pressured. True the mending needed some work. He was fairly down stream which may have helped him some. Thanks for sharing

I thought it was worth sharing with you guys, even with some bad mending. Thanks for sharing

  11. This has become one of my go to techniques for pressured fish. he could have tried a high stick hold and had a quicker hook set though.

The two tailraces I fish are pressured big time; so yes this is why I paid close attention to the micro nymphing technique. I have tried the high sticking with my 9 ft. fly rod on our local tailrace. Thanks for the comment
