The Tornados That Hit Our State

Needless to say I didn’t accomplish my goal of landing 100 bluegills during the month of April. The horrendous Tornados that hit Alabama this past week put an end to my quest.  I must say I have never seen destruction like my family and I have seen this past week. It all started Wednesday morning with the start of over 100 tornados that pounded the state all day and into the night. Power is not restored as of yet to most of the state, and parts of the state will not have power restored for weeks. The subdivision that my family and I live in lost electricity Wednesday morning and was not restored until Friday night. Our area escaped with some minor damage such as trees down and power lines down. We feel very blessed that we survived all three tornados that came our way and pray and feel for all those that lost family and all their belongings. You don’t realize how precious life is until you go through and experience something like we witnessed and went through this past week.  I am sure most of you have seen the destruction and damage through the news media, but for those of you who may have missed the footage the videos below show the actual events.

  1. Glad ya'll didn't have any damage. Did you see the one that hit Smithville, MS? It was just 15-20 miles from my house. 14 of 16 businesses were destroyed with 35 people killed. It was pretty scary as I'm sure you experienced. I saw rotation above my house that morning. You're so right...life is precious. Let's plan our trip to Bear Creek and do some livin'. Tell Aunt Cathy "hello".

The one that hit Smithville was as bad as the ones that hit Prattville, Hackleburg, and Tuscaloosa. I really feel for all the families and the lost that they have experienced. I am looking forward to the Bear Creek trip. Just let me know when it will be good for you.

Thanks for your concern. Really the start of tornados season starts this month, so we have a ways to go before things settles down. A side note---one of my fishing buddies and I will be going to Smith in the morning to toss some poppers to the spots. I will be posting the trip in the next day or two----still looking forward to our trip.

  5. Hey Bill. Good to hear you're OK. Mother Nature is sure angry this year. The whole country is getting clobbered. I just keep my fingers crossed for my friends and family all over the country. Rain, snow, tornados, and who knows what else. Mighty angry, she is.

Unfortunately we live in an area here called tornado alley. We always get tornados either north of us or south of us. We have been blessed so far not to get hit with one. I am glad we have a basement in our house, so we can at least go to safety. Some of the individuals who made it through this had basements, and that is all that saved them. It will take years for some of these areas to rebuild, and some small little towns may never come back. Thanks for the comment

The new media here is saying that global warming is the cause of the outbreak of all the bad weather we are experiencing here lately. I am tending to agree with them. I can remember back 25 years ago when the tornados were not as frequent as they are now. I am ready for some hot weather to get out of the tornado season. Thanks for the comment
